McCain or Obama..Help!

Posted in Unspecified

I will be going to the polls soon and I'm afraid I'm still not sure how to vote. Grrr!

I want to walk into that polling place 100% sure of my vote. So convince me dear peeps. Give me good reasons to vote for the candidate you want. Try to sway me, whatever it takes, if it's truthful, I want to hear it. I need to make up my mind, I should have done that by now...:(

You face a difficult decision Laurie, and I totally understand.

Here's my take :

McCain has been at Bush's side voting his way 90% of the time over these last 8 years that have basically sent our entire country into the toilet.

The "war" in Iraq... our horrible economy... failing school systems... health care in chaos... taxes out the wazoo... jobs sent overseas... mortgage crisis... huge national debt... and on and on and on...

Shit.

It goes on forever...

While I deeply respect McCain, I couldn't come anywhere NEAR voting for him based on his past alliances with that old school "whatever" bullshit.

Our country is fracking MELTING, and he played a part in that...

You know I voted for Barack, and I did so for a damn good reason :

Things as they have been in our country for the last 8 years simply MUST BE STOPPED !

Obama has a decided mission to get us back on track, is young and highly intelligent ( like me ) ( HAHAHAHAHAHA ! ), and is a VERY GROUNDED INDIVIDUAL who will ACTUALLY REPRESENT... ( are you ready ? ) ... US !

Also, based on Gallup polls today, Barack holds a 7-8% lead over McCain across the states, and I think that makes it pretty damn clear that America has had ENOUGH of this bullshit !

...... cam stops rambling .....

But here's a bonus image to help in your decision ! :

( I know... I posted it on mine too... )

( Don't sue me ! )

haha...

Cam - 8:38 PM - 10/25/2008

Okay girl, here's my take on it. I have checked and re-checked both plans Obama & McCain have. But firstly Obama has been saying for 2 years what plan he had for America, McCain had honestly just started mentioning his "plans" in the past two weeks. (and he's coping just a little too. you know what us "people" want to hear) Obama is not going to raise taxes that drastically on the $250,000 a year ones . Plus he's going to give them a big write off for hiring American citizens. The interview with "Joe the Plumber" was edited so bad in McCain's ad . CNN ran the entire conversation he had with this man. Catch it if you can, see for yourself just how that conversation went. When he said "Spread the wealth" there were some very important parts of the conversation left out. I think the fact that he is bi-racial is going to have a big impact on everyone if he's elected. Including other countries. In a sense of UNITY like we have never seen before. Plus he has lived both lives, the less fortunate and the blessed. And he hasn't forgotten where he came from. He's calm under pressure, unlike McCain who has a reputation in the senate for losing it when things don't go his way. (another sign of Bush) And # 1 -- If God forbid something happened to him...PALIN for president scares the hell out of me. Oh and everything Cam said too. I voted and am so damn proud to have cast my vote for Obama. I hope this sways you ALOT, haha ;) It's been tough for everyone. and I hate the type of campaign that McCain has allowed. The name calling, accusations that are just heartless. But however...he has nothing else. love you. I have a feel good feeling every time I listen to Obama talk of our country..like I did when I was younger. It's been a long time. We need our reputation back, if McCain wins no one is ever going to trust our country again. ~hugs

windy - 10:00 PM - 10/25/2008

I agree with everything both of them said, and Windy brought up a few good points that I hadn't thought of. But basically I don't believe in promises, because I don't think they follow through with most of them. I am basing my decision to vote for Obama almost entirely on the economy and in hopes that he will change it.....

lisalisabobisa - 10:06 PM - 10/25/2008

Cam - 6:23 AM - 10/26/2008

Hahaha...:D

lisalisabobisa - 8:25 AM - 10/26/2008

schooch over, Laurie, so's I can sit with ya! I still am unsure, as well. *sighs*

LadyVisine - 11:50 AM - 10/26/2008

Laurie, it is YOUR vote. Read and learn about each candidate and you decide what is important to you. Everyone has an opinion based on their own convictions and concerns. Go with what feels right for you.
This country is in God's hands anyway.

Nikkie - 12:02 PM - 10/26/2008

OMG,Cam. I snorted Diet Coke out my nose laughing at your comment. I used to have that Sarah Palin phone.

Do the research. Vote for the person whose views are closest with yours. Just vote. If people had got out there and voted, then maybe we wouldn't have had our current assclown of a President for the past eight years.

slayerbarbie - 4:57 PM - 10/26/2008

The phones say it all my friends.. beside Laurie, do you want a moose and wolf killer in the white house?

indigomoonarts - 5:30 PM - 10/26/2008

My opinion is on the record ... but it reflects my own opinions, priorities and morals. Yours may vary. I decided on my candidate because I felt he could make a difference in this world and in this country and try to bring all of us back together, working for a common goal and the common good. I hope he can.

drdog - 8:17 PM - 10/26/2008

Umm, think we pushed too hard Cam ?? hahahaha ! On a serious note Laurie, it's your decision, your right. I hope you come to a comfortable zone so you'll feel okay with your vote. I chose who I did because I am scared of another 4 years of the same. Our economy tells the truth. I just don't buy the tax break for the big companies and the wealth will trickle down to the middle class, (that's what's been going on for the last 8 years , and the economy is sinking because of it. Too much greed)So I'm willing to try starting from the middle class and letting others prosper. Just vote. Good Luck. *you knew me & Cam would be right over to help, didn't you ? hahaha* love you

windy - 9:08 PM - 10/26/2008

I'm surprised that you and Cam didn't organize an airdrop of information to her house, Windy. You guys are slipping. LOL.

slayerbarbie - 7:15 AM - 10/27/2008

Let me reiterate a certain aspect :

( My airplane wouldn't start, D )

Cam - 7:20 AM - 10/27/2008

Well Laurie-doo.....ultimately the final decision rests with you. You really, really have to do your own homework....others won't do it for you.

People have really been hoodwinked by Barack Obama, especially when he speaks of rebuilding from the bottom up. You cannot do that....it's literally impossible.

When you hear that "trickle down economics" doesn't work, total malarkey. Ronald Reagan brought this country back from a disastrous four years under Jimmy Carter using not the theory of, but the actual nuts and bolts of trickle down economics.
That method worked extremely well before, and can and will work again.

"Plus he's going to give them a big write off for hiring American citizens."

Bologna....his plan is to give companies a $3,000 tax break if you hire within the US. That doesn't even begin to cover the employers cost of training, providing health care benefits, and any and all of the other costs involved in hiring a new employee.

You'll continually hear the libs yakking about this financial crises is Bush's fault. That's not only a complete farce but a lie as well. Bush had nothing to do with this mess we're in right now.
That finger can be pointed firstly at the Dems in Congress that helped and promoted lending institutions like Fanny-Mae and Freddy-Mack, and even Acorn. You had ultra shady lenders that screwed many consumers, and you had just as many consumers not doing their homework.
Especially when it came to the huge difference between a fixed rate mortgage and an APR adjustable rate mortgage....some very stupid people.

Then you had absolute greedy power-mongers on Wall Street. Bush is not responsible for these things!

And if you prefer "socialism" over "capitalism" then you most assuredly want to vote for Barack Hussein Obama. But don't cry when your taxes go so high that you cannot see anymore, don't cry when your socialistic national health-care plan fails miserably....and please do not cry if God forbid, as Joe Biden puts it, "That mark my word, within the first six months of his presidency Barack Obama will be tested by the world, we will have another terrorist attack on our soil.

And he goes on to say that, "We will need your help....because at first it may look like we're failing, or do not know what we're doing."

Boy-howdy.....that's the kind of reassurance I want and need!!

But ya know.....it's perfectly normal for many, and relatively common, to wait until that curtain is closed to cast your vote.

Rubicon - 9:11 AM - 10/27/2008

Since when does "hoodwinked" mean facing reality ?

Cam - 9:22 AM - 10/27/2008

And, as Birdy Chris just pointed out :

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/...index.html

Cam - 9:28 AM - 10/27/2008

My mother is a Republican and my dad is a Democrat, and I had them yelling in either ear. I didn't know what to think. I was watching CNN and they were running this sidebar with issues and where each candidate stood on them. Then I went on the internet and started looking at where each person stood on issues that are most important to me. That's what I used to make my decision. It'll probably be the easiest way for you to decide, too.

slayerbarbie - 9:29 AM - 10/27/2008

Let's just see how America feels as of today using the most historically reliable polls :

http://www.gallup.com/poll/111466/Ga...ading.aspx

Cam - 9:36 AM - 10/27/2008

Thanks Cam ! ;)

windy - 2:48 PM - 10/27/2008

Stupid people ? Name calling and such. A big turn off for me.... Big hugs Laurie. :) It's was just "my opinion" . Not a campaign , you know me & Cam, and others are behind you no matter who you vote for. It's your choice and I respect it with all my heart. =)

windy - 2:56 PM - 10/27/2008

"That mark my word, within the first six months of his presidency Barack Obama will be tested by the world, we will have another terrorist attack on our soil."

I have thought about that more than once. And that's the only thing about Obama that scares me. And now we have Syria calling us "terrorists"....wonderful

lisalisabobisa - 3:20 PM - 10/27/2008

Now don't get mad at me Cam & Windy....

lisalisabobisa - 3:29 PM - 10/27/2008

Would we be having this back and forth discussion if Obama's name was John Smith? What makes him a terrorist? The fact that people think he's Muslim because of his name? What if he was Jewish? Or Atheist? Or agnostic? Or Buddhist? Would he be a terrorist then? And what if he *is* Muslim? Does being Muslim automatically make you a terrorist? If I was Muslim, I would be PISSED OFF and suing people left and right for insinuating that I'm a terrorist *just* because of my faith.

slayerbarbie - 3:42 PM - 10/27/2008

Bobisa, we ourselves are considered terrorists by many because of Iraq !

Barack wants to get our troops OUT as soon as possible, and turn things back over to the Iraqis as should have been done LONG ago...

The majority of people asked around the world preferred Obama by a HUGE majority !

Cam - 3:56 PM - 10/27/2008

Are you talking to me? Because all I did was agree with the fact that we might be tested if a Democrat is elected. Because our strength will be tested. I do agree that is possible. How does that possibly say that Obama is a terrorist? You lost me D....

And the comment I made about Syria has nothing to do with this post. I was just stating what I read in the news today......

lisalisabobisa - 3:59 PM - 10/27/2008

AND I have MANY Muslim friends, so I have absolutely nothing against the religion.

lisalisabobisa - 4:00 PM - 10/27/2008

No, I'm not talking to you, Lisa, because I know that you have lots of Muslim friends. I just get upset at the number of people out there that equate "Muslim" with "terrorist."

slayerbarbie - 4:29 PM - 10/27/2008

OK....lol I read that and it didn't make any sense if it were directed at me:)

And you are right, many people unfortunately look at Muslims that way, because people have a tendency to generalize and lump a whole religion, culture, nation or what have you all together as one.

That would be the same as saying all the white people in America are just like the skinheads they arrested today.....

lisalisabobisa - 5:24 PM - 10/27/2008

Those idiots...

That is the one thing I fear if Obama wins.

I mean AFTER Obama wins...

*snicker*

Cam - 6:11 PM - 10/27/2008

lol, I love how we can debate. *hehe... Lisa (and I am talking to you The comment Biden made about being tested I listen to a whole panel of Republicans & Democrats discussing this. And it seems that no matter who is elected there is a possibility that "America" will get tested. I agree with you that this is scary. But it's a possibility either/ or. I ,like Cam have listen to leaders and such of other countries who are also saying that America needs this change. Bin Laden has said from the get go, that he accomplished what he wanted and that was to put fear in American people. None of us can say we are completely safe , never again . No matter who wins.

windy - 7:00 PM - 10/27/2008

Me too Cam....:(

lol "after" huh...;)

lisalisabobisa - 7:08 PM - 10/27/2008

That is true Windy. It's a whole different world out there and it's scary.

I like how we can debate too;) but I'm too lazy to copy and paste the winking smiley, so you get the symbol...haha

I agree we need the change, don't doubt that, I guess I'm just afraid of not having a Republican in office because I don't want our country to look weak...or vulnerable. That's all.:)

lisalisabobisa - 7:13 PM - 10/27/2008

Yes, Bobisa... AFTER !

And Windy is right...

As far as terrorists are concerned, it doesn't matter who wins.

We are a target, plain & simple.

( Sad, but true )

And where the HELL is Laurie through all of this ?

Did she post this, then go hide in a cave ?

Cam - 7:13 PM - 10/27/2008

Lisa you better give me a smilie

windy - 7:15 PM - 10/27/2008

Yeah Cam where is laurie

windy - 7:24 PM - 10/27/2008

Maybe she thought, "Oh God... What have I done ?" after she started reading the comments.

Cam - 7:45 PM - 10/27/2008

She's gone to vote for Obama...

windy - 7:57 PM - 10/27/2008

LOL!!

You guys are nuts! hahaha.

No, I wanted to sit back and read. I was able to see how passionate each of you are about the person you're voting for, which is what I want, the passion to make my decision.

With the exception of Michael, all of you seem to be voting for Obama.

Michael did bring up some good points though, so I am going to start searching online for some news footage and videos of any speeches the both of them have participated in.

I just saw news footage of the white supremacists that got arrested for plotting to assassinate Obama and other black people. How sick is that?

I'm afraid if he does win, there might be more of that. In a town about an hour and half away from me, there is a large white supremacist group nettled in the hills of that artsy community. Now THOSE GUYS are definitely terrorist!

LauriesAsylum - 8:35 PM - 10/27/2008

Do your research, and vote with your heart Laurie...

The decision is YOURS and YOURS ALONE !

Oh... and...

Cam - 9:12 PM - 10/27/2008

Now you're not going to let that cute little puppy sway you, are you Laurie?

lisalisabobisa - 10:13 PM - 10/27/2008

Well, it is pretty cute, lol.

LauriesAsylum - 12:20 AM - 10/28/2008

And he adopted it...

windy - 3:24 AM - 10/28/2008

"Hoodwinked" is a polite way of saying that many have been duped into thinking that he, (Obama), can bring about change in Washington when he knows that he cannot.
I agree that it won't matter who becomes president, we should have been expecting another attack anyway....especially when you consider that each and everyone of our intelligent sources basically confirm this, or rather, say that it's not just a possibility but a reality.

Obama thinks that he can bring terrorists like Mahmood Ahmadinejad, president of Iran, to the table and have some sort of open dialog with him, and other terrorist nations as well as terrorist supporters and sympathizers....now that is damn scary!! We already know that they hate America and American's, they loath and despise our way of life and are taught that we are the infidels and should be killed. So how in the world are you supposed to have any kind of reasonable dialog with people of this mindset?? I'd really love to know!

At least with a conservative in the office we won't have to worry about succumbing to continual terrorist threats, or, being "duped" into thinking that there's a way to deal with them.

Laurie....I saw the report about the skinhead "white supremacist" assholes. While they are a dangerous bunch, they're still small potatoes when you consider the intricacies involved in assassinating anyone, especially an American president. Those low-life's I don't consider near as much as I do terrorists.

What I will do here, as I have in other mostly political blogs, is explain that John McCain was never my first choice for president....in some ways I find him to be a little more liberal for my tastes, yet, I believe that he'll be tough on terror, and has a much better chance of making changes as opposed to Barack Obama. At least McCain has a much more realistic approach and has much, much more real-life experiences as opposed to Obama who has absolutely no foreign relations experience, who has no clue as to how our military works and is structured, and that's just for starters.

But nevertheless, and furthermore, and whatever other funky-silly words I can toss in there. Ultimately I vote for the party, for the conservative values, and that's going to be regardless of which Republican gets the nomination. And I have to hope that whoever that person may be, that he, or possible she, will follow in the real and true conservative values, ideas and ideals that folks like Ronald Reagan lived and breathed. So....there's some of my philosophy.

I forget now but someone quoted me saying "stupid people" and made the comment about name calling. When naming a rather large group of people stupid, that's not name calling, plus it's something that I do not do. Call it more of a title when you consider that they didn't take the time, and read the fine print to see and know just what they were getting themselves into. These people, who helped us get into this situation, I have no sympathy for. And it's quite likely that you'd consider them stupid as well.

Rubicon - 4:08 AM - 10/28/2008

Obama "knows that he cannot" bring change to Washington ?

HUH ?

Where the heck did that come from, Rubicon ?

* scratches head *

Personally, I support the idea of attempted table-talk with leaders of threatening forces from abroad, if not to simply make some POTENTIAL progress in the right direction towards a brighter future for all involved...

However, if it doesn't work, let 'em have it !

Cam - 4:53 AM - 10/28/2008

No, I get what you're saying as for people getting in the situation they did with mortgages. What I don't get is why we will bail out big corporates and ignore a major crisis with "middle class" people who ..yes, got themselves in over their head. That's the kind of government I'm tired of. Greed, and selfishness. And I also believe that you can build economy by helping all the small business stay alive. We're dying out here, and it effects the economy in our whole county. Which goes from town to town, state to state. Our country. And we have no one bailing us out. So it is a little personal for me, the economy has hit us , in a hard way. We have been begging for years , cause we seen it coming. And I also believe our foreign policy would be in good hands with Obama's policy. I guess I do believe in change, hope.

www.liberty.edu/media/9980/attachments/voter_guide_wallbuilders.pdf -

Here, Laurie. I need cheat sheets like this.

slayerbarbie - 10:48 AM - 10/28/2008

Hey Cam....how many presidential hopefuls have you heard over the years that have said that they'll bring change to Washington? You'd run outta digits on your hands and feet trying to count.

However....what will happen should, (God forbid), Obama win this election, we'll have whats called a "super majority". Because we'll have an extremely liberal Democrat in the Oval Office, followed by the extreme far left, and very dangerous Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Now Cam....our Democrat held congress right now is the majority, add a Democrat, and it becomes a super majority. Pelosi and Reid will have a field day passing pretty much anything and everything that Barack Obama wants....and it's a guarantee that that'll be visa-versa. Pelosi and Reid have but one thing on their minds and that's to raise our taxes through the roof.

You think our economy is bad now? Wait until they all gain control and do just that and you'll see prices going up everywhere because vendors have no choice but to pass that extra cost onto the consumer. It happened before with Jimmy Carter, (don't know your age or if you remember that era), and this country was sinking fast....almost drowned.
You think that you like his eloquent way of talking and giving speeches and his overall demeanor. Plus....you along with many others love his slogan that his supporters love to chant, "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN".

When he speaks of these so-called changes you'll find that they have no substance....like an empty suit talking. And you've also heard him talk about "socialism", something that he talked about even years ago. He believes that this country should be governed by the courts....more to the point, The Supreme Court. Can you even imagine the chaos that this country would fall into if that ever happened??? And plus again he'll be owned by Pelosi and Reid and Murtha and all the others who have an agenda that does not jibe with what we, the citizens want.

When this Democratic Congress was voted in Pelosi, Reid & Co. made numerous promises that they'd do this, do that, and all within the first 100 days. Hmmm, I wonder, seems like I heard this same thing not long ago, oh, I remember, it's Barack Obama that said he'd do this and that within the first 100 days. Congress has done absolutely nothing....and their approval rating is much, much lower than George Bush's, at a whopping 13%! One of which was his platform of bringing our troops home in that 100 days. It cannot be done, and trust me and the rest of America, we all want ALL of our troops home NOW! But it just simply can't happen that way. And Obama has since changed his tune after speaking with the active generals in Iraq. They seemed to have set him straight on this and now he wants a staggered type of withdrawal....much more realistic.

Okay, okay....I've prattled on way long enough. Thanks Laurie for letting me sing my song, LOL!

And Windy....at this point the government has no choice but to bail these people and institutions out. And that includes the people that got in way over their heads and should be trying to sell the home, or go with foreclosure and then file for bankruptcy and then just take their lumps. Chalk it up to live and learn, or count your losses and move on. But what really galls me to no end is that we, the taxpayers, are having to use our money to accomplish this! Lenders like Fanny-Mae and Freddy-Mack, backed by powerful liberal Democrats that gained from approving loans to those, or business's that couldn't afford it.

But if we don't bail them out at this point we'll suffer much more in the very near future.

Rubicon - 6:39 AM - 10/29/2008

Sing away Michael.

I want to hear all the sides, election day is coming close!

My mother was going to vote one way and all of a sudden she changed her mind. I think it's that kind of election..:)

Hey Cam....how many presidential hopefuls have you heard over the years that have said that they'll bring change to Washington? You'd run outta digits on your hands and feet trying to count.

Nice try Rubicon, but that dog don't hunt...

Count how many Presidents HAVE brought change for the better, both Republican & Democrat.

Are you saying you don't want change ?

Based on how horrid things are now ?

Are you afraid of change ?

Does it bum you out that McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time, and now declares himself a "maverick" ?

And what about Palin ?

Think she'd make a great YOU BETCHA ! HOCKEY MOM President should the situation arise ?

Seriously ?

"You think that you like his eloquent way of talking and giving speeches and his overall demeanor. Plus....you along with many others love his slogan that his supporters love to chant, "CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN". "

Wrong.

I don't THINK that I like it, I KNOW that I do...

And raising taxes on businesses that make over $250,000 a year in order to redistribute the money to the middle class is wrong why ?

And let's get real about "super majority"...

The general liberal mentality does NOT take from the poor, and give to the rich.

Other way around...

UNLIKE the quagmire created over the last eight pathetic years by You Know Who and his money-snorting consortium of cronies.

Obama and Biden and Pelosi and Reid aim to create jobs, and inject new life into the gasping-for-breath coma Bush has brought us to.

Remember when Clinton left office, and the world liked us, and we weren't at "war" looking for weapons of mass destruction that didn't even exist as we inadvertently killed innocent people in a foreign country ?

"As of January 1st 2008, the IBC total for violent civilian deaths to the end of 2007 is 81,174–88,585 (including our preliminary figure of 902 for December 2007)."

http://www.iraqbodycount.org/

And remember that part where we had a budget SURPLUS as opposed to TEN AND A HALF TRILLION IN DEBT AND RISING RAPIDLY ?

http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/

I'm 42, so of course I remember Carter...

And Billy Beer.

Do you remember Reagan ?

"His economic policies were mostly a failure. Partly this was because he had promised something arithmetically impossible: to increase military spending, cut taxes, and balance the budget. He kept the first two promises, delivering the largest peacetime military build-up in American history, and cutting taxes massively, mostly for upper-income households.

But budget deficits soared to record heights. The national debt doubled, as a percentage of the economy, before Mr. Reagan's successors were able to bring it under control. This "military Keynesianism" did pull the economy out of the 1982 recession, but the 1980s still chalked up the slowest growth of any decade in the post-World War II era. And income was redistributed to the wealthy as never before: during the 1980s, most of the country's income gains went to the top 1 or 2 percent of households.

Mr. Reagan also helped redistribute American income and wealth with a bold assault on American labor. In 1981 he summarily fired 12,000 air traffic controllers who went on strike for better working conditions. This ushered in a new and dark era of labor relations, with employers now free to "permanently replace" striking workers. The median real wage failed to grow during the decade of the 1980s.

The Reagan revolution caused even more economic damage internationally, for example by changing policy at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Thus began the era of "structural adjustment" -- a set of economic policies that has become so discredited worldwide that the IMF and World Bank no longer use the term. The 1980s became "the lost decade" for Latin America, the region most affected by Washington's foreign economic policy. Income per person actually shrank for the decade, a rare historical event, and the region has yet to come close to its pre-1980s growth rates.
"

And let's balance that Socialist scale, shall we ? ...

slayerbarbie - 11:03 AM - 10/29/2008

Whoa, Cam, you've been busy, haha.

Those were some interesting points!.:)

I'm actually sitting here with licorice, the red and black bites. Quite fun to snack on while reading this. Of course with all the calories, I won't be eating dinner, lol.

I hope I don't forget to watch Barack tonight..:(

LauriesAsylum - 3:15 PM - 10/29/2008

Should Rubicon and I start charging admission ?

haha...

Cam - 4:11 PM - 10/29/2008

It's so hard for me to take anything seriously from the folks who use Obama's middle name as though it was an insult. To me, it's akin to starting a sentence with, "I'm afraid of anyone with a foreign sounding name, so you KNOW I'm about to dish out some real WISDOM here".

Anonymous - 6:32 PM - 10/29/2008

Yeah, sorry...that was me.

brennan - 6:42 PM - 10/29/2008

Quite a valid point, Bren...

I find it fairly disturbing myself.

Judge a person by name ?

That's not how things work here...

I sure hope Laurie & Bobisa saw Barack on TV tonight.

What an incredible man.

Cam - 6:55 PM - 10/29/2008

Brennan? On my page?

I'm afraid there are probably a lot of people that are freaked about his middle name. That name is associated with an evil man. There will be many that can't separate the two. Or for that matter, his other name, Obama.

I have to admit, in the beginning, I was a little bothered about that. Not that I associated him with those men, but the name bothered me. 9/11 is still very fresh in my mind.

But, logic took over and I realized a name is just a name! He shouldn't be penalized because he has the same name as those men. That's just plain stupid...

LauriesAsylum - 7:01 PM - 10/29/2008

Crap! I missed it!!!

I should have had you call me to remind me, I knew I wouldn't remember...:(

LauriesAsylum - 7:03 PM - 10/29/2008

Oh dear, Laurie...

It was quite powerful and moving.

Barack cleary spelled out his ambitions regarding the economy, health care, education, Iraq, alternative energy, and creating millions of U.S. jobs...

We'll see if it is up on youtube soon, I guess.

Cam - 7:23 PM - 10/29/2008

I turned on the TV at 8pm and was able to watch the last 30 minutes!

LauriesAsylum - 7:47 PM - 10/29/2008

I missed it too :(

lisalisabobisa - 7:53 PM - 10/29/2008

Laurie - It was only 30 minutes, so you saw the whole thing...

I hope you liked what he had to say !

Bobisa - DADGUMMIT !

Cam - 8:02 PM - 10/29/2008

I wanted to watch it, but had to work tonight. :( Please do let us know if it's on youtube!

LadyVisine - 8:06 PM - 10/29/2008

But, I have to wonder... Where on earth did he find the money to do a half hour paid program like that? He must have a lot of supporters donating a lot of money!

LauriesAsylum - 8:09 PM - 10/29/2008

That is exactly where the money is coming from, Laurie...

Supporter donations as opposed to federal funds.

Americans have spoken through him with their own money !

Cam - 8:15 PM - 10/29/2008

Wow..

LauriesAsylum - 8:18 PM - 10/29/2008

I'm not American...but like the rest of the world...we've been following the news...hehe...it must be a pretty exciting time now! : )

Go with your heart!

strangecloud - 8:22 PM - 10/29/2008

lol...Brennan was probably reading and couldn't stand it anymore, and had to chime in :D

lisalisabobisa - 8:27 PM - 10/29/2008

Bren can only hold his tongue for so long, Bobisa...

I taught him well.

Cam - 8:33 PM - 10/29/2008

Awesome, thanks Cam:)

lisalisabobisa - 8:35 PM - 10/29/2008

I couldn't see the content Bobisa because I'm on my ANTIQUE LAND-LINE computer...

( yes... my laptop is still basically not working )

Let me know how they were !

Cam - 8:39 PM - 10/29/2008

Will do!

lisalisabobisa - 9:00 PM - 10/29/2008

I watched it, It's important to watch this stuff. I've already voted and feel great that I voted for change. Great homework Cam, I haven't been online in the past two days, haha, but you're holding us down here. lol :)

windy - 6:43 AM - 10/30/2008

Yep, he sure is. Good thing for Cam ;) I'm going to watch those tonight.:)

lisalisabobisa - 6:49 AM - 10/30/2008

Thanks so much for the linkage, Cam! I'll watch it after work tonight! :)

LadyVisine - 7:03 AM - 10/30/2008

I think you'll both like his messages...

As Windy stated, I agree it is important to see !

Cam - 7:28 AM - 10/30/2008

I wonder why it wasn't on ABC. Not that I'm complaining, because all the shows l love on Wednesday are on ABC, so I tuned into NBC (lowers head in shame) to watch Obama.

slayerbarbie - 8:44 AM - 10/30/2008

Well, the results are only 5 days away now...so time will tell soon ;) You made up your mind Laurie?, or are you even more confused. haha :)

windy - 8:56 AM - 10/30/2008

"Nice try Rubicon, but that dog don't hunt..."

Actually my friend.....my dog does hunt, and pretty well at that! How do you propose to change the Washington institutions like "the good 'ole boys", or the lobbyists that are there to stay. How do you propose to change the career politicians like Joe Biden at 30 years for example?
So many young congressmen and senators get to D.C. with this grand illusion that they'll make a big difference.....very quickly some of them begin to understand the power that they have. Along comes money, plus power, and then it becomes shear greed. I believe that a lot of this begins with the career politicians.
Also....if it were you or me; what do you suppose the odds are that it would happen to us? And be freakin' honest! Real change would mean the loss of much of what they all have gotten used to and don't want to lose. Do you think that the 30 + year veterans are going to go for that? I don't think so....

"Looks like we may have to agree to disagree, Rubicon.

But hey...

I respect your opinions and beliefs, so no ill will intended!"

Absolutely no ill will taken! I could not agree more with you on the concept of agreeing to disagree. It's a whole lot better than trying to tolerate personal attacks and name-calling and the like, and that has happened here in the past with others and at other blogs that are strictly political. Once one stoops to that level their debate or argument is lost and gone as far as I'm concerned.

I deeply respect your ideas, ideals and your passion for what you believe in. I'm not tooting a horn here but I fought and bled so that we all may keep the rights and privileges that we so enjoy and what makes this country as great as it is. It would not be natural to me if everyone thought and felt the same way. We need opposing views and ideas....and we enjoy the right to say so freely without fear of retribution. Unless YOU'RE wrong!! LOL!

"Are you afraid of change ?" Are you like....kidding me or something??

You're a mirror image, or an echo for the DNC, you tow the party line and just like the DNC teaches, evasiveness, using mindless arguments to distract people, chanting the same old and tired 8 years of Bush and his administration.
Look....I disagree with a number of things that Bush has done, I think that somewhere-somehow President Bush lost some of his objectivity and aimed his focus in some other directions that didn't help us much.

BUT!! Not everything in this world is George Bush's fault! And this is another fine example of the DNC and the liberal doctrine saying things like, "the failed attempts of the last eight years"....it's always about the, "last eight years!" It's old, it's tired, it's not entirely true, yet liberals use it in everything! I get a nose bleed and it's Bush's fault, I stub my toe and it's Bush's fault, and if I take a stinky shit....it's definitely Bush's fault!! That's what ya'll sound like....The larger fault lays with the majority that early on did not rally behind their president and did not support him during one of the worst times in American history. Had it been the opposite, I have to believe that our image abroad, and our foreign policy would be a whole lot different. But it's easier to blame George W. Bush.

I spoke of evasiveness....case in point, you chose to not address the liberal congress's dismal 13% approval rating. You don't want for people to know that and this is typical when it comes to so many other important issues. Especially where Barack Obama's concerned and his ultra-questionable associations. We've never gotten anything near the whole story, he has dodged and ducked anytime anything remotely tough is asked.
And no thanks to the ultra-liberal mainstream media people aren't going to know, much less get any answers.. And case in point....Joe Biden is asked by a good and reputable reporter in an interview, by the name of Barbra West, about Obama's statements on socialism etc. Biden became angry, defensive and incredulous, saying "are you serious?" "Who writes your questions?"
If that wasn't enough the Obama camp stated that that station would get no more interviews. Jill Biden was scheduled to appear shortly after Joe....that interview was quickly canceled. What kind of rubbish is that? It's distract and evade.

"Obama and Biden and Pelosi and Reid aim to create jobs, and inject new life into the gasping-for-breath coma Bush has brought us to."

You can't be serious....you simply cannot be serious! Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have done absolutely nothing good for this country! NOTHING! All the promises they made when they were first seated in their new positions of power? Hmmm.....American's have been watching and not liking the politics as usual with this uber- liberal crowd. What we have seen is abuse of power, greed, and they are what they've always been, obstructionists. I'm sorry mister but you're just so very misguided if you think for a second that those three will make any great changes, much less create more jobs. If anything they'll put jobs in the tank, we'll begin to sink but our taxes will go sky-high, and when we go to places like the grocery store we'll be paying upwards of two to three times what we used to on many items. And it does not end at the grocery store. 13% approval rating huh? And they have the nerve to continually attack Bush!!??

"And let's balance that Socialist scale, shall we ? ..."

You can't....socialism is what it is. Trying to spin it a different way isn't going to change what it really is. Socialism is socialism....it's bad for us, it's bad for the economy, and ultimately bad for the world. One form of that would be the loss of our super-power status. Keep in mind that the US is by far and away the most charitable country on this planet. Many other peoples and countries depend on us for our charity and our protection. We won't be the only ones seriously hurt by socialism.

You might want to try and explain to the readers here just what part and how a socialist state would play when it comes to our global war on terrorism. I wonder if that can be answered without having to refer to the DNC Bible! I bet not. We would be a revolving door for terrorists and terrorism on our own soil....just like 9/11. Obama and company cannot wait to slash the military budget. You could forget the Pentagon getting what they need to keep us strong and keep us in the "war on terror". Pelosi, Reid and the other liberal followers, if given free rein would dismantle our military thereby leaving us wide open....and the terrorists would die from laughter. I wonder if that would qualify for martyrdom and get 'em their 72 virgins? LOL

And lastly....you could not be more wrong about Ronald Reagan if you tried. I have been a student of Reagan for years and all you're doing is chanting the same mantra that Tip O' Neil and company chanted beck in the eighties. You still can't stand to admit that President Ronald Reagan was the greatest president of the 20th Century. This country owes him a huge debt of gratitude...even for today.

Funny you write that crap. I guess you'll not mention all of the references to Reagan in the debates and on the stumps? Even Al Gore tried to imitate Reagan early on in the debates by using the same make-up techniques that Reagan used from his Hollywood stardom days. And many liberals grudgingly agree to that. But when you have liberal Democrats referring to Reagan, his policies that worked, his firm stance on Communism, his strength, his real and true attitude that American's related to, causing his first win to be by the biggest landslide this country has ever known, well....couldn't have been that bad after all. And I guess that we hadn't changed our minds much when his second term was brought about with a monstrous landslide.

I remember a time when I got 130 or more comments on a blog I did some time back. It was about Muslim terrorists and politics....you know, the usual. I wonder if Laurie-doo will top it from this thing that she has sparked, or spawned?
See whatcha done did miss-missy-miss?? Ya got some of us all riled up riley.

And agreed Cam....perhaps we should consider charging admission when you figure that the readers here are breaking to get their popcorn and gnawing on their licorice. And racing back to the computer to see who's made the latest comment, or dig. Maybe we should start slinging mud and stuff. Ya know....ramp things up a bit, and then say, ohh, ummm, hmmm.....$3.50 a head, $5.00 for a fist fight!

Oh....quickly, I don't want to forget this one. Obama's cutesy little 30 minute, 15 million dollar infomercial I don't think was a raging success. In fact, I seriously doubt that he swayed the independent vote, or those who have yet to decide. If we haven't seen enough of him already, well last night went over the top. We're all sick of 20 months of campaigning, it's all too much, it's time for it to end.

I know..I know, you're fawning all over Obama because of his glitzy, Hollywood style production of a mere infomercial. I'll say that it was glitzy, the editing was very professional and well done. But he said nothing new, and still there was no real substance. If he wanted to really get people's attention he should have addressed the Rev. Wright, the Bill Ayers issues, and now the LA Times alleged tape of Obama at a dinner for Rashid Kalidi that they won't release. Kalidi is a well known Palestinian PLO sympathsizer. He's a college professor who spouts and spews his venom to his students.

Yet another shady association for Barack Obama. Will we soon lose track?

Rubicon - 9:18 AM - 10/30/2008

Sounds fair...

I think we should acquire a liqour license too.

Buck a beer !

Cam - 9:29 AM - 10/30/2008

Here's the answer to your question D :

"ABC, feeling protective of its struggling Wednesday night block, hesitated too long to offer the Obama campaign the 8 p.m. slot. By the time the network agreed, the deal was off the table."

Cam - 9:37 AM - 10/30/2008

Take a chill pill Michael....LOL I enjoy reading the diverse opinions, and I am not 100% sure of my vote yet, and will probably not be until I walk in to place my vote next week. I keep going back and forth, this has been the only election that I can remember that I have been so indecisive about a candidate.

lisalisabobisa - 10:10 AM - 10/30/2008

And Cam, make sure there's Bud Lite with lime ok....;)

lisalisabobisa - 10:11 AM - 10/30/2008

Roger that !

Cam - 10:19 AM - 10/30/2008

I think Laurie already has a lot to think about without everyone putting up dissertations on the election on her blog. Everyone, throw down your weapons and ease up a bit and have a drink. Anyone fancy a Becks? :D

slayerbarbie - 11:04 AM - 10/30/2008

To Obama ! hahahahahahahaha ;)

windy - 11:23 AM - 10/30/2008

LauriesAsylum - 12:19 PM - 10/30/2008

That's funny Laurie. I see you've made your decision. lol

windy - 12:46 PM - 10/30/2008

That is hilarious. Even SpongeyBobby (as my nana calls him) would be a better president than the assclown we have right now. Great, now I want crab cakes.

slayerbarbie - 1:36 PM - 10/30/2008

That is so cute. Makes me feel really bad for the porn I'm about to put up on my blog.

slayerbarbie - 2:04 PM - 10/30/2008

The little one in the front is soo damn cute ;) *now eases over to Dee's site*

windy - 2:09 PM - 10/30/2008

I haven't put it up, yet, dirty girl. *hehehe*

slayerbarbie - 2:17 PM - 10/30/2008

I know this is after the fact, but this is how I looked at it. I'm a conservative...well...mostly. See, I still believe that, just as we have public education (because an educated populace is a productive populace), we need some sort of universal health care. After all what good is an education if the mind and body are not sound? An educated and healthy populace (it seems to me) would be extremely beneficial to the country.

Now...I said I was conservative but I am not a Republican. I don't consider today's Republicans to be conservative. Sure, they're more conservative than the Democrats, but, right now, they seem to all be standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the political spectrum.

So basically, as I've said before, we have the right and left cheek of the same ass to vote for. Kinda makes you wonder about the asshole in the middle doesn't it? I didn't vote for either major candidate. I refuse to vote for the "lesser of two evils" anymore. I voted for someone who fit my beliefs. I know that some think that I threw away my vote and that it didn't count since my choice doesn't stand a chance..but I made a statement. I told whoever compiles all of the voting information that both parties are bloated, self-important, self-serving parasites who do not really have the best interests of the country in mind (ok...ok...I didn't really say all, that but it was implied when I marked my ballot). They want to get elected, stay elected, get their party in power, and keep their party in power constituents be damned.[/sermon]

Phew...that felt good. I'm sorry I hijacked your blog...;D

texican - 5:02 PM - 10/30/2008

That video was so awesome Windy!

*wonders if Dee put up her porn video yet*

LauriesAsylum - 5:03 PM - 10/30/2008

Hey Rene! It's good to hear from you..:)

That's exactly what my son is doing. I'm not sure of the guys name, but my son feels his beliefs match his own, like you said.

LauriesAsylum - 5:06 PM - 10/30/2008

So you actually went ahead and voted for R2D2 Rene ?

Bold move, my friend...

Cam - 5:08 PM - 10/30/2008

Yup...I had to write him in, though. Those damned Ewoks mustered a hell of a smear campaign against him trying to get C3PO on the ballot. Furry little bastards...

texican - 5:12 PM - 10/30/2008

You guys are nuts..

LauriesAsylum - 5:20 PM - 10/30/2008

For some strange reason I can't argue with that.

Cam - 6:27 PM - 10/30/2008

I like root beer.
Did I miss anything?

brennan - 6:51 PM - 10/30/2008

You may have missed this :

"You are more likely to be killed by a meteor dropping on your head than McCain becoming president," said Professor Michael McDonald, who specialises in polls and election number-crunching at Virginia's George Mason University."

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/ne...6396/posts

No need to duck !

Cam - 6:57 PM - 10/30/2008

I really enjoyed that video :D

lisalisabobisa - 8:02 PM - 10/30/2008

I did too Lisa. I saw them on CNN the other night and thought it was the cutest.

windy - 8:37 PM - 10/30/2008

Root beer with vanilla ice cream, dang that sounds soooo goood...

LauriesAsylum - 9:35 PM - 10/30/2008

Well, I finally got to view the videos of Obama's 30 minute infomercial. He certainly is an inspiring speaker, I'll give him that. This certainly is a difficult election, for those of us who are independent voters. It does not help that there are folks out there spewing this & that malarky about either candidate. Some say Obama is the "anti-christ", while others say that McCain will lead us into WWIII. If only we were able to believe that our vote WILL make a difference. *sighs*

LadyVisine - 7:35 AM - 10/31/2008

I know Kimmi, that's why I've had such a hard time deciding!

What's really weird, people have been stealing Obama signs around our neighborhood. As soon as a neighbor puts one on their lawn, it disappears. I think that's pretty silly, they go ahead and put another one right back up, so why bother? What are they trying to accomplish?

LauriesAsylum - 7:48 AM - 10/31/2008

On a random side note :

My Mom called me here at work yesterday and said this...

"I just parked at Target by a big pickup with a giant McCain sign taped across the back window, and guess what is written in soap on the side window."

Me : "Uh... what ?"

Mom : "Go Joe the plumber."

Me : *groan*

Mom : "But wait...it get's better... plumber is spelled PLUMMER."

hahahahahahahaha....

Cam - 8:26 AM - 10/31/2008

hahahahaha There's your sign ;)

windy - 1:37 PM - 10/31/2008

Laurie I don't know if you caught it or not but the rally Obama had in Missouri last night was one of his best.

windy - 1:40 PM - 10/31/2008

That does it! I'm entering the race. Slayer for President. Let's paint the White House pink and then then bling it up with Swarovski crystals. Yeah!

slayerbarbie - 2:20 PM - 10/31/2008

Dee--A pink White House..

Works for me!

You'd make a kick butt president, lol.

LauriesAsylum - 3:11 PM - 10/31/2008

Joe the Plummer... HAHAHAHAHA!

LauriesAsylum - 3:12 PM - 10/31/2008

Can I be the Secretary of Drinking Cheap Beer, D ?

Cam - 3:52 PM - 10/31/2008

I'm sure we already have one of those, but we just don't know it, lol.

I've already had 45 trick or treaters tonight! And it's not even 7pm!

LauriesAsylum - 5:48 PM - 10/31/2008

Wowza...

I don't get the kiddos here.

Are you handing out cheap candy or the good stuff ?

Cam - 5:53 PM - 10/31/2008

I buy the little bags and put the little candy bars in them along with little packages of licorice or the good lollipops.
Good stuff!

Hey, I don't want my house egged! LOL.

LauriesAsylum - 6:34 PM - 10/31/2008

the funny thing about the dorks who are stealing the Obama yard signs, is they are basically helping to fund the Obama campaign every time they steal a sign that gets replaced. Yep, folks are BUYING the yard signs & so when it gets stolen, the Democrats are purchasing replacement signs. The idiots who are stealing the signs are so stupid, they don't even realize they are hurting their own cause! ROFLOL!!!

LadyVisine - 7:36 PM - 10/31/2008

I went out trick & treating with the grandkids. I had a good time. Alyssa just had dental work done and couldn't eat the caramel candies(which is her favorites) Caiden eat them for her. haha. I don't get many kids either. I live out of their way. The grandkids just get more candy. lol.

windy - 7:37 PM - 10/31/2008

Good point LV ! =]

windy - 7:38 PM - 10/31/2008

Plummer....that's a good one...haha

Demetrius, I'm totally with you on the pink house with the crystals :D

lisalisabobisa - 7:55 PM - 10/31/2008

Those are fancy treats you give out Laurie !

Cam - 4:35 AM - 11/1/2008

Haha !

Check this out :

http://www.candyvote.com/

Cam - 10:48 AM - 11/1/2008

LOL, but in watching him count out the candies, I noticed something. There were a lot of little candies for Obama, which means that some people threw in a few little ones, not just one. Which means that he was counting several votes from one house, one person.

LauriesAsylum - 12:30 PM - 11/1/2008

It's a fixed vote !

haha...

Cam - 6:11 PM - 11/1/2008

What a clever kid!!

LadyVisine - 6:14 PM - 11/1/2008

I'm still somewhat on the fence with who I will vote for. I thought back about how life has been for the past 8 years...not very good! Both candidates are promising some kind of change. So I'm going with the party that was in control when things where not so bad.

Palin as possible president pretty much sealed the deal for me voting for Obama. I'm sure she is a very charming and intelligent woman that can do almost anything she puts her mind too...but I just can't feel safe with her as president. I think other countries would think they would need to "test" us even more if she had to take over the presidency. kind of like teasing the dog to see how long it takes before it bites.

There should be a maximum age for a president. I mean no disrespect for older people, but I think there are to many health risks after that age for someone to be president. Airline pilots, military careers, fire and rescue....they all have maximum age standards for a reason.

littleMissConfused - 6:39 PM - 11/1/2008

You're making a wise decision based on the current Gallup polls, Lisa :

http://www.gallup.com/Home.aspx

I saw a former Republican strategist on CNN last night say it is basically over for McCain's chances to win.

Cam - 6:47 PM - 11/1/2008

What really blows my mind is the mindset of the extreme religious zealots who are screaming that Obama is the "anti-Christ" & therefore, we should not vote him into office. Uhm, maybe I'm not zealous enough, I dunno, but it seems to me that if a man is pre-destined by a Higher Power (God, Allah, Bubba, Karma, whoever you choose to call that entity) to become a leader of a nation, then there is little any of us could do to alter that destiny. I'm thinking, if indeed Obama was the anti-Christ, then those who are so darned afraid really ought to be concentrating on getting themselves right spiritually with the God of their understanding, instead of wasting precious time bewailing how we'll all go to hell in a handbasket when Obama takes over our country as president. *rolls eyes at the zealots* LIke my husband used to say, it's not about who's right or who's wrong, at that point... it's about who's left.

LadyVisine - 6:21 AM - 11/2/2008

sorry for hijacking your post, too, btw. that was something I've wanted to share & I hope this was the right place to do it.

LadyVisine - 6:22 AM - 11/2/2008

I agree 100% Lady V.

Cam - 6:32 AM - 11/2/2008

I agree too Kimmi!

Besides, I've always imagined the anti-Christ to have horns, lol.

LauriesAsylum - 9:52 AM - 11/2/2008

LMC--His age doesn't bother me, my mom is 77 and going strong. But, he has had health problems and some of them recently, and that's a concern for me.

Of course my mother did just drive over a brick wall, hmmm.

LauriesAsylum - 9:54 AM - 11/2/2008

SEE! He might be ok at his age...but do you really want him to have a 'senior moment' when he has to make a quick decision on some global war thing?

littleMissConfused - 12:42 PM - 11/2/2008

Hahahaha Laurie :D It's not funny, but it is the way you just worded it....

lisalisabobisa - 2:40 PM - 11/2/2008

Very well put LV .

windy - 3:57 PM - 11/2/2008

You need a pair of oven mitts. Make sure you keep those areas clean. Glad the election is over. Now lets hope and pray everything can be fixed once again in this old USA.

Patty - 7:54 AM - 11/5/2008

Patty--I bought myself some mitts and I now leave them at the clients house. I have to search for them each day I come back though, she moves things around the house in the middle of the night, lol.
