A Gift For You...

I saw Demetrius do this, aka slayerbarbie, and I thought, how cool! With all the crap that's happened in the past two days, I need to bring some fun and happiness into my life. This will do it. It's a gift meme.

If you want to get a little bag of goodies from me, leave me a PM with your address. It might take awhile, because I will be searching for just the right little trinkets that remind me of you. I'm so excited, this will be fun!

And no, YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS IN RETURN!! This is just something I want to do, giving makes me happy...:)

Now for the crap...

Two days ago, after my trip, I got in my little Saturn to run up to the store. As I get around the corner of house I hear this huge bang! I freaked and drove back to my house hearing an awful noise under the car. Turns out my muffler in dragging on the street. Sheesh.. I call my husband and he tells me he'll have to come home and tie it up and take it to a muffler shop. In the meantime, take the van to the store.

I drive to the store down the street, get my groceries, and start to drive back. All of a sudden, the van stops, right in the middle of the street. I coast over to the side of the road and wait. WTH is going on? I know there's gas in the car. I wait, start the car again and drive. I go a few feet and the van stops again. I coast over to the side of the street again! This goes on for a bit as the car keeps starting each time and I want to get as close to home as possible because of the food I bought.

Finally, I get around the corner from my house and the van quits for good. It wouldn't even start again. I make several trips back and forth between the van and my home carrying the groceries. Call a tow truck and have it taken to a service repair shop. This sucks. What are the odds, both cars breaking down the same day?

Good news is that fixing the muffler only cost me $45.00! That service guy worked on it for two hours and that's all he charged, is that awesome or what?

Bad news is that they don't know what's wrong with the van. I think it has something to do with the fuel pump, maybe it's clogged or something, but they keep coming up with all this other stuff that it could be. I think they're going to try and rip me off. Well, they don't know me, HA! Let them try, LOL.

I want one!!! Haha just kidding :D I thought about doing this a while back too, and then I just forgot about it. I think it would be fun.

I still can't believe it about the two cars. That's nice they only charged you $45 for the Saturn. It's good that you have two vehicles, so now you still have something to get around in:) I hope they figure out the problem with the van, and it turns out to be some little thing that won't cost a fortune...

lisalisabobisa - 12:15 PM - 8/16/2008

LOL,you can't have one, hahah, you live too close to me.

I know, I'm so happy that the saturn was an easy fix!

LauriesAsylum - 12:34 PM - 8/16/2008

Dang that really stinks! Good thing one car was a 'cheap' fix. I hope the van wont cost much. I hate the not knowing part...don't you?
Sounds like a fun meme. I am in. Sending you my addy.

Nikkie - 12:40 PM - 8/16/2008

I'm glad they fixed it for so cheap. That is such a relief.

I have always said you are clairvoyant and now I know it's true, Laurie, because I am addressing the envelopes for these things as we speak.

slayerbarbie - 1:33 PM - 8/16/2008

Glad one was a cheap job, you can't find too much that cheap anymore. Good luck with the van, do you need it fixed right now, if it's going to cost a lot? Or can it set for a while? Always something when you least expect it. Are you still working? Have to run to the grocery myself, we need bread. We dont' usually go througha loaf so quickly, but we've had sandwiches quite often since Wed. when i bought a loaf. Have a good week-end. I gave up my VOX account, just keeping my blogspot, but will check back here now and then and try to keep up with things.

Patty - 4:11 PM - 8/16/2008

I hate car problems. I had one car that did the start stop thing. The first mechanic we brought it too couldn't figure out what was wrong. He called me and told me he couldn't fix it, I had to bring it to a dealership. When I went to go have it towed, they had put a bunch of parts on the drivers seat. They took it all apart and still couldn't fix it...they didn't even out the parts back in! Needless to say, that mechanic isn't in business any more!

Glad the muffler was a cheap fix! Going with only one car in a multi driver family sucks!

littleMissConfused - 4:39 PM - 8/16/2008

That's pretty dadgum freaky that both broke down on the same day...

What a bummer !

I know my 2008 Ferrari won't break down any time soon...

Ya know... the one I was sitting in when we met...

Regarding the neato gifty thingy, you already know that I live in the southern hemisphere of Neptune.

Cam - 6:19 PM - 8/16/2008

I had a van & a pickup that used to do that freaky stall, then die thing. Turns out, both times, it was a $25 sensor that needed replaced. Take your van to a reputable mechanic who uses those gizmos that check the sensors. Chances are, that's all that's wrong with your van & it won't cost a fortune to repair. At least, I hope so. :)

LadyVisine - 7:38 PM - 8/16/2008

glad you made it home

darkstar - 8:40 PM - 8/16/2008

I thought about maybe passing aroung around a litle diary or something, we could sign our signature and then send to the nest person after we tell what we did wile we had it, (rolls eyes) oh well.

darkstar - 8:43 PM - 8/16/2008

Girl !! We have had the same problem this week with first the work van, then the extra van ..ha ! , that's used when the work van is in shop.....yep, no way to haul around the gutter machine. Had to rent one until one or the other got fixed. The work van was fuel filter, fuel pump. The other van they haven't figured out yet. It has been a bitching week !
You are a giving person , that's too sweet to want to do for people :) Laurie - You're a big sweetheart ♥

windy - 10:05 PM - 8/16/2008

Ha! Ha! Cam...I knew you where from another planet!

littleMissConfused - 1:15 AM - 8/17/2008

That's some good luck with the care but too bad about the van. I hope it's inexpensive. That would be my kind of luck.

heavensdevil99 - 8:59 AM - 8/17/2008

Nikkie--yeah, it worries me that it is in the shop this long without a diagnosis. I'm afraid of what they'll come up with!

LauriesAsylum - 9:40 AM - 8/17/2008

Demetrius--Are you really, lol.

I'm glad it was an easy fix also, I thought he was going to tell us we needed a new muffler...:(

LauriesAsylum - 9:42 AM - 8/17/2008

Patty--I tried to leave you a comment at blogspot, but it seems I'm not using the right password, grrr.

I don't go to Vox much, I never remember to! I miss your post, they always put a smile on my face. Would you consider copying and pasting over on efx2?

The van gets used all the time for hauling and moving things, so we do need to fix it, unfortunately.

LauriesAsylum - 9:44 AM - 8/17/2008

LMC--We could never make do with one car! I use the Saturn because it's cheap on gas, but we are always needing the van to move or load things. Yeah, that mechanic sounds pretty dumb!

LauriesAsylum - 9:46 AM - 8/17/2008

Cam--It was freaky, and it happened less than an hour apart!

Um, yeah, your 2008 Ferrari, they must be changing the look, your's looked suspiciously like a white truck, lol.

Yep, I know where you live, scary isn't it?

LauriesAsylum - 9:50 AM - 8/17/2008

Kimmi--Hmm, I think I'll call them Monday and tell them about that.
If it didn't have to be towed again, I'd move it to a dealer. It bothers me that it's taking them so long to figure out what's wrong...:(

LauriesAsylum - 9:52 AM - 8/17/2008

David--Thanks...:)

That diary thing actually sounds like a cool idea..:)

LauriesAsylum - 9:52 AM - 8/17/2008

Windy---ahhh! You have it worse than me...

I was thinking it had to do with the fuel pump, I just hope they're looking in that direction. It's awful to be at the mercy of an automobile shop you're not familiar with...:(

And I know your address already Windy..:)

LauriesAsylum - 9:55 AM - 8/17/2008

LMC--LOL, good one!

LauriesAsylum - 9:56 AM - 8/17/2008

Wanda--I know, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

LauriesAsylum - 9:56 AM - 8/17/2008

Oh...

Uh... that was a... um... typo.

Yeah.

I meant 1989 Ford F-150...

My bad.

Cam - 10:28 AM - 8/17/2008

She's giggling @ Cam.. uh, I think that's what she's doing. hahaha ;)

windy - 2:39 PM - 8/17/2008

Nice of you to do this gift meme. I hope lots of people want a gift of you. Since i live far away i will not join, otherwise i fear you will not be able to pay for the cost of your van repair.

logis - 2:47 PM - 8/17/2008

Windy that are either peeing

darkstar - 8:25 PM - 8/17/2008

Cam--Ah yeah, big typo, haha.

LauriesAsylum - 9:01 PM - 8/17/2008

David and Windy--LOL, it does look like the pee-pee dance!

LauriesAsylum - 9:03 PM - 8/17/2008

Logis---Awww, I'm not buying expensive things for the goodie bags, just little trinkets, that's all. My husband is paying for the van, as long as I have the money to pay for groceries for the week, I'm good! So, if you want to partake in the gift bag, don't be afraid to say yes...:)

LauriesAsylum - 9:06 PM - 8/17/2008

* scratches hair while having a deep think*

Brain says it's better to spend the money on your hubby as thank you for paying for repairs of the van.

logis - 4:58 AM - 8/18/2008

The van kind of problem happened to my car once years ago. Turns out it was the air filter, which hadn't been changed for a long, long, long time.

Hope someone capable diagnoses the van problem, as Lady Visine suggested. Gee, it must have been your lucky day!

drdog - 5:38 AM - 8/18/2008

Logis---actually, that's a good idea, thanks!

LauriesAsylum - 8:40 AM - 8/18/2008

Peter--We just had an oil change and all that, so I have a feeling it's not that. I'm getting ready to call them now and see what they have to say, wish me luck!

LauriesAsylum - 8:42 AM - 8/18/2008

Sometimes I swear we should all go back to horses! Talk about lucky that one of them could be fixed so inexpensively! Hopefully, the other will be working soon too - without a huge cash layout!

I love the package idea that is going around. I would love to participate, but I'd feel bad not reciprocating and I know that I'm terrible about mailing things most of the time. *hangs head in shame*

DeeJay - 5:15 PM - 8/19/2008

Thats how it always happens to me, when i had two cars, it seems like they always broke at the same time, i think its just how it happens

boz - 7:50 AM - 8/23/2008

Cool Idea! It's great to see that type of interaction amongst our community.
