I'm back! Like you really missed me, lol

Posted in Unspecified

The trip went great. It was really nice to see my husband hanging with cousins and Aunts and Uncles he hadn't seen in years. He was so relaxed and happy!

The mother-in-law drove me crazy of course, that was to be expected, LOL. We actually got into it once. My father-in-law has Alzheimer's and she got frustrated with him to the point that she would yell at him. I finally told her to knock it off, it wasn't his fault that he couldn't remember the things she was asking him and she needed to quit testing him, it only got him frustrated and sad. We went a whole day without speaking, but she finally
broke down and we had a long talk about her situation.

On the way to Cloudcroft New Mexico, my mother-in-law wanted to take a shortcut through Las Cruces. Right away I thought of our fellow blogger, Cam. But, I thought, what are the odds of actually going down the street that his store is on? Well, that's exactly what we did and we went right by it, Coyote Traders. I mentioned that I knew someone from my blog that works there and that's all I said. Now you have to understand that I'm really shy, and there was no way that I was going to stop!

Well, we continued down the street for about a mile and stopped at the McDonald's for a bathroom break. While there, I was struggling with the fact that I didn't ask anyone if we could stop so I could say hi. I was quite angry with myself for being such a wimp! I mean what are the odds that I would go through another state, right on the same street with a blogger I've been speaking to for almost 4 years? Would it ever happen again?

My husband could see I was struggling with it and finally said, "Why don't we go back down the street and you can run in the store and say hi."

Ok, lets do it. Grow up Laurie, what would be the worst thing that could happen? Would he run in horror? Would he be pissed because you stopped by unannounced? No he would never do those things, I knew that much about him, LOL.

We drove back and I saw him leaving the store to walk to his truck. I'd seen enough pics of him to pick him out, haha.

My husband raced to the next stop light and we did a u-turn. He was still in his truck parked in the lot.

My mother-in-law screams out the window, "You can't leave yet, there's someone who wants to meet you!"

Ok, let me die of embarrassment right now...

I walk up to his truck, I could tell from the look on his face he thought I was another customer wanting him to open the store back up. LOL.

I told him who I was and it was pretty easy from there....:)

He is even cuter in person, looks wise and personality wise. I felt comfortable right away and that doesn't come easy for me! Thanks Cam for making it easy for me, I'm so glad I met you!

Here's a couple of pics of that crazy guy in his store!

heavensdevil99 - 3:42 PM - 8/14/2008

It's just great when you meet bloggers you've talked to - I've met Squilla, Ankh, Bitzky, Fundy, Frozen Memory so far and I really hope I meet a few more.

Chandramoon - 3:59 PM - 8/14/2008

Look at that stupid dork !

It was so cool of you to stop so we could meet, Laurie...

We've been friends online for so long and I was THRILLED !

That was nice of hubby to encourage it...

Maybe next time I go to our family pad in Ventura you & Bobisa can come hang out for a spell !

Cloudcroft is a quaint little spot on the map, isn't it ?

I haven't been there in about five years...

It has a nice, laid-back vibe.

I have an elderly uncle who has Alzheimer's...

He and my aunt ( Mom's sister ) live only a few minutes from Coyote.

Uncle John drives Aunt Joey absolutely NUTS, and then Joey in turn drives my Mom nuts complaining about it...

John will go into precise detail in stories about his past back in the 50's, but has NO IDEA what day it is.

So weird and so sad...

At least he still knows who I am.

Every time I've seen him my entire life, he says this when greeting me :

"Hey Camaram !"

haha... and he still does !

Ya know, thinking back, I should've given you a memento from our store !

Cam - 5:03 PM - 8/14/2008

Nikki--Thanks, you're sweet!

My mother-in-law is having a hard time adjusting, sigh.

LauriesAsylum - 5:22 PM - 8/14/2008

Thanks LMC...:)

It might happen when you least expect it, who knew I'd ever be driving through Las Cruces?

LauriesAsylum - 5:23 PM - 8/14/2008

Logis---LOL, yeah, I met the Camster...:)

LauriesAsylum - 5:24 PM - 8/14/2008

treasa--Thanks, it's nice to be home actually. It's too bad I didn't have more time so we could all meet!

LauriesAsylum - 5:25 PM - 8/14/2008

Kelly--Yep I did! And it's good to be home, I'll take Southern CA over New Mexico any day!

LauriesAsylum - 5:26 PM - 8/14/2008

Wanda---That's great! This is my first time so it was scary and exciting at the same time...:)

LauriesAsylum - 5:27 PM - 8/14/2008

Chandra--Wow, you've met a lot of bloggers, that's awesome!

LauriesAsylum - 5:28 PM - 8/14/2008

Cam---Aww, that dork is cute, haha.

You better call us when you get to your place in Ventura!

He knew he'd be hearing me complain that I should have stopped, all the way home, he's no dummy, lol

Cloudcroft is awesome! It's so green and pretty and yes, it has a very laid back feel to it. I don't care for lightening or thunder though and I saw plenty of that while there. *shudder*

That's so sweet that your Uncle calls you that, how funny!

The thing is, my father-in-law isn't bad yet, so he is very aware of how he is spoken to, and very alert most of the time. That's why I got upset with her. I do understand this is very hard for her though, it's sad all the way around...:(

Yeah, where's my memento??

LauriesAsylum - 5:42 PM - 8/14/2008

I'll send you leftover pizza slices.

Double pepperoni and double black olives even !

Cam - 5:54 PM - 8/14/2008

I'm glad that you made it back from your trip in one piece, glad that your husband got to gab with his family and glad that Cam had all his clothes on! Can you imagine the look on your MIL's face if Cam had been wearing his Pooh hat and Spiderman garb? That would have been priceless! LOL

slayerbarbie - 5:55 PM - 8/14/2008

That actually is what I was wearing when Laurie showed up, D...

It's kinda my "work uniform".

I politely changed so Laurie could take those pics.

Cam - 6:05 PM - 8/14/2008

Cam--Pizza? Only if Coyote Traders is spelled out with the olives, haha.

LauriesAsylum - 6:06 PM - 8/14/2008

Demetrius--LOL, actually my mother-in-law would have gotten a kick out of it, haha. She's pretty weird...

LauriesAsylum - 6:07 PM - 8/14/2008

Yeah, I don't think I could have lived with that image on my camera, haha.

LauriesAsylum - 6:08 PM - 8/14/2008

At least I wasn't wearing my horsey outfit that day :

I'll spell out Coyote Traders with the olives, Laurie...

I'll have to tape them down for shipping.

Get your microwave ready !

Cam - 6:30 PM - 8/14/2008

Ah, yeah, my husband might have even had a problem with the horsey outfit, hahaha.

Microwave is ready. Just have to get some beer. Yum.

LauriesAsylum - 10:10 PM - 8/14/2008

Wow that is so awesome that you met Camaram!! Ha ha great name. Any more pics of the store?
welcome back! yes you were missed!

indigomoonarts - 10:49 PM - 8/14/2008

How cool! I am glad you went back; you'd have regretted it if you didn't!

You were missed! I kept looking for your entries then kicking myself as I'd remember you were gone. LOL I'm a dork!

DeeJay - 11:51 AM - 8/15/2008

LOL that's awesome you got some pictures. Now we've both met him...and maybe we can all hang out if he comes to Ventura :)

I knew Darlene would drive you crazy....lol I have to admit, it would be hard to adjust. Even if you're an understanding person it would take a toll. But they are together for better or worse. She needs to consider John's feelings in the whole situation.....

Glad you had fun!

lisalisabobisa - 2:22 PM - 8/15/2008

Are you serious !!! See, you was meant to meet Cam. How crazy was that. I bet your MIL scared him to death, hahahaha !! Dang girl, I want one of those benches from their store. lol ;). I seriously am aiming to get finances straight(hopefully after this damn election) and start planning how & when we're all gonna meet up for at least a weekend. :) Glad your trip was good.

windy - 2:32 PM - 8/15/2008

Figuring on cost to Ventura...hahaha !

windy - 2:40 PM - 8/15/2008

Jana--No I was in a hurry, everyone was waiting in the car for me.. I should have taken a few more, but I was nervous, lol.

LauriesAsylum - 9:32 AM - 8/17/2008

Deejay, you're not a dork!
Yes, I would have regretted it, that's why I forced myself to be a big girl and go back, haha.

LauriesAsylum - 9:34 AM - 8/17/2008

Lisa---It is hard and we would all feel more sympathy for her if she didn't ride him so much and make him feel guilty for not remembering something. It's not his fault...:(

Yep, we'll all have to get together when he comes our way, I wish Windy would be able to come too!

LauriesAsylum - 9:36 AM - 8/17/2008

Windy---He had some awesome furniture in his store. I wish I would have had more time to look. Save your money Windy so you can come out the next time we all get together in Ventura!

LauriesAsylum - 9:39 AM - 8/17/2008

I may be heading out to Ventura in the somewhat near future...

I haven't had a vacation since last July !

Ma & Pa are taking a couple of weeks off out in Cali, and I'll probably try to head out shortly-ish after that.

I'll keep y'all posted !

Cam - 10:55 AM - 8/17/2008

Cam---Cool!!

You said you parents are in AZ right now, are they staying overnight, or do they drive straight through? It's a long drive from New Mexico to CA...:(

LauriesAsylum - 9:14 PM - 8/17/2008

Such a great visit with Cam! Good for you and your hubby for making it happen. Did you see any cute little kitties at his place with submachine guns?

drdog - 5:31 AM - 8/18/2008

Peter--LOL, no kitties, but lots of other cool things in his store..:)

LauriesAsylum - 8:43 AM - 8/18/2008

I make sure and keep weapons FAR AWAY from my cats !

haha...

Ma & Pa stayed the night at a hotel in Phoenix with their kitty Lucy, Laurie...

They're on their way to Brennan's house in Claremont now.

They'll most likely stay there tonight, then go to our Ventura place in the morning.

Lucy sure gets around !

Cam - 9:17 AM - 8/18/2008

Cam--Shame on that girl, haha.

seriously, that's pretty cool that they take her with them...:)

LauriesAsylum - 9:22 AM - 8/18/2008

They just love her to death...

They used to leave her here and I would feed her every day while they were gone, but they just couldn't stand leaving her alone anymore !

Cam - 9:34 AM - 8/18/2008

Welcome Home!!! How fun that you finally got to meet Cam, in RL. :) I love that pig he's holding in the pics. Was that a piggy bank? ;)

While I realize your MIL gets on your nerves, my heart goes out to her. I remember how painful it was to observe my husband go from a brilliantly intelligent individual with a photographic memory to the forgetful, somewhat demented shell of a man in just a matter of three years. The fact that she's staying with him speaks volumes, because THAT is one tough row to hoe. It was probably good for her to hear you tell her off for how she was communicating with her husband, as well as to have been able to have the conversation with you. Dealing with a loved one who is "losing themself" can be exhausting and so frustrating.
